Moxifloxacin with Loteprednol Etabonate eye drops is a combination medication used to treat bacterial infections and associated inflammation of the eye. How it works? Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to a class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones, which work by inhibiting the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme that is necessary for bacterial DNA replication. This leads to the death of the bacteria, stopping the infection from spreading. Loteprednol Etabonate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, thus reducing the symptoms associated with the infection. Together, Moxifloxacin and Loteprednol Etabonate eye drops are used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other bacterial eye infections such as blepharitis and keratitis. They are usually applied to the affected eye(s) as directed by a healthcare provider, usually one to two times daily for 7 to 14 days depending on the severity of the infection. Common side effects of this medication include burning or stinging when the drops are applied, dry eyes and blurred vision. However, serious side effects are rare. They should be discarded after the expiration date or if they become discolored or cloudy.
