Moxifloxacin With Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate
Moxifloxacin with Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate is a combination medication used to treat bacterial infections of the eye and inflammation associated with it.
How it works?
Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to a class of drugs known as fluoroquinolones, which work by inhibiting the activity of bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme that is necessary for bacterial DNA replication. This leads to the death of the bacteria, stopping the infection from spreading.
Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, thus reducing the symptoms associated with the infection. It also helps to reduce pain and itching caused by the infection.
Together, Moxifloxacin and Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate eye drops are used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and other bacterial eye infections such as blepharitis, keratitis and also in some cases of uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of the eye). They are usually applied to the affected eye(s) as directed by a healthcare provider, usually one to two times daily for 7 to 14 days depending on the severity of the infection.
Common side effects of this medication include burning or stinging when the drops are applied, increased intraocular pressure and cataract. However, serious side effects are rare. It’s important to talk to your healthcare provider if you experience any unusual symptoms or if the infection doesn’t improve or worsens after using the drops.
It is important to note that prolonged use of corticosteroids like dexamethasone can lead to increased intraocular pressure and cataract, so it’s important to use it under the guidance of a healthcare professional and follow the dosing instructions provided. It’s also important to follow the dosing instructions provided by your healthcare provider, and not to stop using the medication early, even if symptoms improve. This is because if the full course of treatment is not completed, the infection may come back or become more difficult to treat.
Moxifloxacin with Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate eye drops should be stored at room temperature and protected from light. They should be discarded after the expiration date or if they become discolored or cloudy. It’s important to not use the drops if the solution appears discolored or cloudy, or if there are any particles visible.
It’s also important to note that this medication should not be used in individuals who are allergic to moxifloxacin, dexamethasone sodium phosphate or any other ingredient in the medication. It’s important to inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking and any medical conditions you have before starting treatment with Moxifloxacin with Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate eye drops.
